Music Review – “All Out Life” by Slipknot (2018)

With searing guitars and a percussive assault, Slipknot returns to the fray with their new single “All Out Life”, and as we have come to expect, it is a bit of monster.

Frontman Corey Taylor leads the scorching ritual with a mix of clean and screaming vocals as he invokes the gods of heavy metal… and if we are to be hypercritical, that is the one weakness of this latest release. We have heard this before in “Pyschosocial” and “Duality” – this is not a new sound or a new direction, much less a lyrical evolution of previous efforts. This is exactly the Slipknot we have come to know and expect.

As valid as that criticism may be, that it is not to say that this is not a good track. It is, and it verges on greatness. This is fist pumping defiance. This is a moshing titan that it going to open up the pit every single festival. Slipknot know their trade down to every held note, and they seethe with energy as they whip the crowd into a frenzy.

If you are not already into The Nine, then there is little here to convert you to the cause. However, if you have been itching for a fix since 2014’s Grey Chapter, then this is probably going to be the hit that you have been craving.
